Along the coast to the North (E)

As we left Perth four days ago we didn't think of finding an internet cafe with a fast line for the next few weeks. We took the chance therefor to write an article about what incrediously beautiful landscapes we've seen.

Our first destination on the way to the North was the pinnacles desert near Cervantes. We've seen lots of pictures about the pinnacles and that's how we knew we're wanted to see that place if the times allows it. It was worth to have a look. We experienced the pinnacles in the setting sun and the silhouettes of the pinnacles were reflected in a gorgeous light.

But Cervantes had more to offer than simply pinnacles. For instance, there is  Lake Thetys with its stromatolites. Stromatolites are made of bacteria which produce oxygene. Those stromatolites are known as one of the oldest living creatures on earth.

After seeing all those remarkable things we drove on for miles through fields. We couldn't grasp what is likley to grow here. The wind carried away the little soil that was left in big dusty clouds. This kind of erosion woudn't happen if there was still the native vegetation.

One of the most remarkable sights we enjoyed was a pink lake. We've seen that once before but this was even more pink than the other one. It has nothing to do with human's who hadn't the slightest idea about a chemists basic. It has to do, once more, with bacteria which produce beta carotine. This results in colouring a lake or lagoon in pink.

Right now we are in Kalbarri a small but very touristy village. Actually a nice one. The coast here is wild but sometimes little swimming beaches stuck out of the rough cliffs. For our impression it is too cold and windy to go for a swim and therefore we exprlored the wilder section of the coast. This was worth the effort of clambering over sharp boulders: we've seen our first big red kangaroos!
